HPHT Multifinger Caliper

A multifinger caliper for the most hostile HPHT environment - digital electronics, 205 °C 1200 bar rated

The HPHT 40-finger Multifinger Caliper is based on READ’s existing MFC range, widely recognised in the industry for its high accuracy and measurement resolution, providing detailed inspection of the well bore and completion components.  Sensitive components have been protected using thelatest flasking and heat-sink technology, enabling the tools to survive for at least 15 hours at their maximum rated temperature. Two versions of the caliper tool are available - one is run on electric line giving real-time data at surface, the other records identical data on a downhole memory which is recovered when the tool returns to surface.

The 40 fingers of the HPHT tool, with hardened tungsten tips, individually measure any small changes in casing diameter to within 0.003", providing clear and accurate measurment of corrosion, wear, scale deposit , deformation or other feature.  The fingers measure continuously across an ID range of 3" to 7.5" allowing various diameters of tubing to be logged during a single run in the well. These individual measurements are either transmitted to surface or recorded digitally in the downhole memory module. Tool orientation in the well is continuously recorded, thus enabling each finger measurement to be oriented relative to the borehole.

The caliper fingers are designed to collapse to tool body diameter to ensure that the tool will pass through restrictions during logging with no risk of damage to the fingers. Sensor fingers are opened and closed by command from surface, or by the pre-programmed memory.  Centralisers are run above and below the tool to ensure centralisation in the well bore.

See a  specification of the memory tool and the surface readout tool, or request a complete data sheet.
