Multifinger Caliper Logging

Mechanical casing calipers offered by READ Well Services allow inspection of well casing and tubulars ranging from 2 1/2" to 14" in diameter.

The MFC24 is a memory or surface read out tool used to assess the condition of small production tubing from 2 1/2" to 4 1/2" in diameter. With the 24 arms in the closed position the smallest tool can get through 1 11/16" well restrictions enabling it to record well features such as scale and perforations targeting areas for clean up.

The MFC40 is a memory or surface read out tool and is used to assess 3" to 7" tubulars. The 40 arms give better radial coverage than the smaller tool allowing better imaging of well jewellery from sliding sleeve doors to side packet mandrells. A mechanical device the caliper is unaffected by fluid density and able to work in gas and dense muds.  An HPHT multifinger caliper tool capable of logging in well temperatures of 205 deg C is available for either surface readout or downhole memory operation.

The MFC60 is a surface readout tool used to assess internal casing damage or wear in 4 inch to 10 inch casing. A recent addition to the team includes the 40 arm Casing Caliper capable of accurately mapping 9 5/8" casing on slickline.

The largest of the callipers the MFC80 is designed for assessing the wear in 13 3/8" casing strings. Useful when drilling wear is an issue in high angle setting depths on extended reach wells.

Data from all these tools is analysed and presented using the PVS (Pipe Visualisation System) software.

Product/service benefits:

  • Pinpoint the location of leaks with a view to remedial work.
  • Assess casing collapse / burst tolerances for confidence in that extra sidetrack
  • Choose the best place to set a packer in mature wells
